As the year 2016 came to an end, the world began its transition into a new era.
On the national front, we witnessed fear stoked by polarization driving a new agenda in U.S. politics. Abroad, both Russia’s influence on international politics and the Syrian crisis contributed greatly to destabilizing parts of the world. Some suggest that we are entering a new era plagued by identity politics and xenophobia.
With the world in transition and with these and other seminal issues arising, it is imperative to rethink, reframe, and respond to the burgeoning cultural, political, and social landscape and create a new way to navigate these global issues.
On September 12-13, 2017, the Center for the Study of Religion, Culture and Foreign Affairs at Claremont Lincoln University (Claremont, California) will host an innovative digital conference, titled: Navigating a World in Transition: Creating New Maps for Foreign Affairs. Over the span of two days, this free online conference will address many of these new issues confronting foreign affairs by featuring distinguished foreign policy experts, notable speakers, and prominent academics who will deliver keynote sessions with five research centers across the United States.
Our partnering institutions include Georgetown University, Conflict Resolution Program; Global Strategists Association; University of Southern California, Office of Religious Life; University of Kentucky, Patterson School of Diplomacy & International Commerce; and Oakwood University, The Center for Adventist-Muslim Relations.
This digital conference will be covering topics such as:
- Exponential technological innovation, speed and change
- Globalization, mass migrations, immigration diversity
- Proliferation of social movements impacting values and beliefs
- Worldwide rise of right wing extremism in reaction to change
- Skills and labor shortages projected in near future globally
- Global economic and political instability and uncertainty
