Winnie Film Screening – Black Women & the Struggle: Marginalisation, Poverty and Patriarchy

October 25, 2017 @ 5:00 PM - 7:30 PM

The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation invites you to a public screening of the film “ Winnie” on Wednesday,  25th October 2017. The screening seeks to unpack and bring to light the forgotten black ‘herstory/herstories’ of Winnie and the important and crucial role she played in the fight against apartheid.

The post screening dialogue will centre around the erasure of black women and their ‘herstories’ from our collective history; to highlight the crucial and pivotal role black women have consistently played throughout history in the struggle for black freedom; unpack the triple oppression (race, class and gender) of black women that make the black woman the face of poverty in South Africa and further to inspire open honest dialogue about the racialised and gendered nature of the struggle for freedom.

When: Wednesday, 25 October 2017, 17h00 – 19h30
