In April, we posted news about Degan Ali’s (of the Somali organization Adeso) call for a revolution in the role of Southern NGOs in the humanitarian aid world. The piece below by Marc DuBois in IRIN points out that if the result of these calls is simply having local organizations instead of transnational ones follow donor desires, not much will change. Both pieces highlight a) the power of funding in determining humanitarian priorities, and b) the ongoing paternalism in the aid industry. We are pleased that the debate about how to revolutionize the aid industry continues!
