We at the CIHA Blog support the statement of the African Studies Association of Africa (ASAA) on the current war in Palestine. We note the statement calls for a two-state solution, the observance of international law, a Truth and Reconciliation commission “underpinned by the principles of Teranga, Ubuntu, Ujamaa and Kizuna,” and the release of all hostages as well as additional actions for peace and reconstruction. In addition, in accordance with our mission statement, which includes highlighting “critical and religious voices to explore connections among issues of faith, governance, gender, and race in colonial and post-colonial contexts,” we condemn the use of this war to further attacks on people of religious identities and traditions of any kind, especially Judaism and Islam. We call for an end to this war through mediation and dialogue, recognition of each other’s dignity and right to exist, and respect for the humanity and human rights of all.
