Call for Abstracts: Government Development Strategies in the Pastoral Areas of the Horn of Africa (HoA): Lessons Learned
The Institute for Peace and Security Studies, IPSS, of Addis Ababa University is a premier institute for Peace and Security Studies in Africa. Its mission is to promote peace and security in Ethiopia and Africa at large through education, research and professional development. The Institute produces skilled professionals in conflict prevention, management and resolution as well as in peace building, and promotes the values of a democratic and peaceful society.The Institute for Peace and Security Studies, IPSS, is calling for Abstracts on Government Development Strategies in the Pastoral areas of the Horn of Africa: lessons learned.
The research findings will largely focus on analyzing government policy and implementation of strategies with solid evidence in pastoralist areas of Africa. The specific objectives of the research include: investigating government development strategies and implementations in pastoral areas, analysing pastoralist response to these development strategies and documenting policy and strategic implications in the framework of food security and sustainable resource management.

Request for Proposals: The MasterCard Foundation- Economic Opportunities for Youth
The MasterCard Foundation has been an innovator and a major funder focused on the transition of young people into the workforce. The Economic Opportunities for Youth strategy aims to improve the capacity of young men and women to find quality employment, grow their businesses, access finance and expand the opportunities available to them. To date, the Foundation has committed $177 million to 16 countries in Africa. The Foundation’s projects are focused on both rural and urban areas in many countries. We aspire to motivate and attract others to join us in this work.
The Foundation is inviting non-governmental organizations, financial service providers, as well as private sector and academic institutions to present collaborative models that will enable disadvantaged youth to build successful livelihoods. The areas of focus for this round will be in the agriculture/agribusiness sector in Ghana and Uganda, as well as the construction sector in Ghana.
The MasterCard Foundation is also committed to the principle of youth engagement and is seeking proposals that will demonstrate youth involvement in program design, implementation and evaluation.

Call for Papers—The Peace Journalist magazine
The Peace Journalist is a semi-annual publication of the Center for Global Peace Journalism at Park University in Parkville, Missouri.
The Peace Journalist is dedicated to disseminating news and information for and about teachers, students, and practitioners of peace and conflict sensitive journalism.
Submissions are welcome from all. For the April, 2014 edition of The Peace Journalist, we are seeking short submissions (300-550 words) detailing peace journalism projects, classes, proposals, academic works in the field, etc. We also welcome longer submissions (800-1200 words) about peace or conflict sensitive journalism projects or programs, as well as academic works from the field.

The Carter Center invites all qualified candidates to apply for position Chief of Party on the Access to Justice Project in Liberia. The Carter is guided by a fundamental commitment to human rights and the alleviation of human suffering; it seeks to prevent and resolve conflicts, enhance freedom and democracy, and improve health.
The Chief of Party will be primarily responsible for in-country leadership on a funded three year Sida funded project to strengthen citizen’s access to justice in Liberia, conducted in partnership with the Government of Liberia. The COP will report to the Associate Director, Conflict Resolution Program (AD).

Applications now open: 2014-15 International Scholarship Programme for Post-Graduate Work- Aga Khan Education Services
he Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from select developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies, in order to prepare them for employment, primarily within the AKDN. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant : 50% loan basis through a competitive application process once a year in June or July. The Foundation gives priority to requests for Master’s level courses but is willing to consider applications for PhD programmes, only in the case of outstanding students who are highly recommended for doctoral studies by their professors and who need a PhD for the fulfilment of their career objectives (academic or research oriented). Applications for short-term courses are not considered; neither are applications from students who have already started their course of study.

Call for Papers: 4th International Africa Peace and Conflict Resolution Conference, 25-26 July 2014, Johannesburg, South Africa
Under the theme ‘Alternative Dispute Resolution and Peace Studies in Africa: Lessons, Prospects and Challenges’, the South Africa-based African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) and the Center for African Peace & Conflict Resolution (CAPCR) at California State University, Sacramento, will co-host the 4th International Africa Peace and Conflict Resolution Conference from 25 to 26 July 2014 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Organisers recently launched preparations and published a call for papers for this international summit, which will seek to address a gap in knowledge and research on various Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms as well as peace and conflict resolution initiatives and their impact in reducing conflicts, increasing peace and development, and promoting social justice in Africa. Within this context, the conference will attempt to identify best practices, common challenges and prospects in addition to providing space for networking, self-assessment, reflection and innovation among practitioners, academics, policymakers, and donors participating in the event.
