IJR SONA Event: Access to Education: Breaking the Barriers

| IJR uses the time between the SONA and Budget speech to influence national conversations and engage a variety of stakeholders. This time of the year offers an opportunity to engage political leaders, parliamentarians, policy makers as well as the diplomatic community in Cape Town. The objective for this period is to influence national and international debates on key issues and offer relevant insights to the broader public as well as enable the voices of ordinary citizens to reach the stakeholders as mentioned above.
In South Africa’s young democracy the crisis in education has been a highly contentious topic. We understand that education is often heralded as the most important tool to escape poverty however, many structures bar learners from reaping the rewards of a quality education. In this discuss we attempt to highlight the complexities of these obstacles irrespective of whether they are simple, institutional, personal or structural. Looking forward to seeing you all there! |
