#ReadingAfrica Panel Discussion

The panel will feature:

Moderator: Aoife Lennon-Ritchie is head of the Lennon-Ritchie agency, a literary agency based in Cape Town. Their award-winning books include the 2021 Giller Prize shortlisted and 2019 Sharjah best international book award winning THE SON OF THE HOUSE by Cheluchi Onuobia; the 2021 Sunday Times Fiction prize winning and 2021 Walter Scott prize shortlisted A SIN OF OMISSION by Marguerite Poland; the 2019 Sunday Times Fiction Prize winning THE THEORY OF FLIGHT by Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu, and winner of the 2020 SALA awards and the 2020 Humanities and Social Sciences best novel award, LACUNA by Fiona Snyckers.

Panelists

Sifton Anipare: Sifton Tracey Anipare is the author of Yume. She is a Ghanaian Canadian writer who lived and taught in Japan for four years. She loves video games, bubble tea, Japanese coffee mixes, and is an avid collector of stickers and stamps. Yume is her first novel.

Gabeba BaderoonGabeba Baderoon is an Associate Professor of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies and African Studies, at Penn State, and is co-director of the university’s African Feminist Initiative. She is also the co-editor of Surfacing: On Being Black and Feminist in South Africa.

Yewande OmotosoYewande Omotoso is an architect, with a masters in creative writing from the University of Cape Town. She is the author of The Woman Next Door, which was shortlisted for the International Dublin Literary Award, the Aidoo-Snyder Prize, the Barry Ronge Fiction Prize, and the UJ Literary Prize, Bom Boy (published in the US by Catalyst Press), which was the winner of South African Literary Award First Time Author Prize, and the recently released novel An Unusual Grief.

Cheluchi OnyemelukweCheluchi Onyemelukwe-Onuobia is a lawyer, academic, and writer. She works in the areas of health, gender, and violence against women and children. She is the author of Son of the House, which was recently awarded the 2021 Nigeria Prize for Literature.
