“Home is where the heart is”—how does this familiar idea effect immigrant communities? How does one create a home away from home? And what is the role of cultural institutions for those communities? Join the discussion at the National Museum of African Art to share your experiences and engage in an honest dialogue about how to navigate and preserve tradition in a multi-cultural environment, through the lens of the local and global African diasporic community. The museum’s Community Outreach Specialist Gathoni Kamau will moderate.
The first talk in a proposed series presented quarterly, this lively and interactive discussion will allow the museum to hear directly from one of its most important audiences: D.C.’s local African immigrant community. Make your voice heard!
