I cordially invite you to join us for a three-day in-person and virtual workshop at the Nigeria National Museum Lagos, focusing on “Nigerian Voices Against Slavery”. This workshop is part of an ongoing exhibition at the Nigerian National Museum (located at Onikan, Lagos Island, Lagos State) where we—the AFRAB project (a research project hosted at UCL that studies African Abolitionism)—showcase some of the Nigerian voices against slavery.The Exhibition: The exhibition runs at the exhibition hall of the Nigeria National Museum from July 8 to August 10.The Workshop: The three-day workshops (July 25 – July 27) cater to students (on July 25), researchers and lecturers (on July 26), and campaigners/community stakeholders (on July 27).The full program is attached to this email.Activities will include:
- Round Table Discussion by NGOs on the Campaign Against Slavery in Nigeria (Day 3)
- Keynote: Prof. Fatima Waziri-Azi, Director General of The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) (Day 3)
- “The Role of Media and Communication in Shaping Anti-Slavery Narratives” by Hon. Funke Egbemode (Day 3)
- “Understanding Abolition from African Perspectives” by Prof. Olutayo C. Adesina (Day 2)
- Curriculum Design and Integration (on African Abolition of Slavery) by Professor Benedetta Rossi (Day 2)
- “Historical Context of African Involvement in the Abolition Movement” by Dr. Monsuru Muritala and Michael Odijie (Day 1)
- Workshop on Archival Research with Archivists Mr. Herbert Egbo and Peter Ayoade (Day 1)
