The Hekima Institute of Peace Studies and International Relations (HIPSIR) is one of the three institutional winners of the 2019 prestigious Human Relations Area Files (HRAF) Global Scholarship Award. HIPSIR, a CIHA partner organization, learned about the scholarship opportunity through the CIHA Blog. The information was also posted on the CIHA Blog Twitter and Facebook accounts in October 2019. The award offered by HRAF at Yale University provides an excellent opportunity for all individuals within the institution to access eHRAF World Cultures and eHRAF Archaeology database at no charge. The database comprises of rich ethnographic collections that have been well organized by regions, subregions, and cultures. It provides information covering over 300 cultures. This makes the database a great research and teaching tool. Besides HIPSIR, the other winners of the institutional category of the scholarship in 2020 are the University of Caldas in Colombia and the Rock Art Research Institute (RARI) in South Africa. HRAF also offers individual scholarships. Getnet Tibebu, a PhD student at Addis Ababa University and a participant at the CIHA workshop on Teaching about Religion and Humanitarianism in Africa, is among the individual scholarship grantees for his project on “Resistance and Representations in African Anglophone Novels.” The CIHA Blog offers a great platform through which all scholars, academicians, and humanitarian practitioners can learn about the current debates on humanitarianism in Africa as well as existing opportunities.
