“On 31st March 2017, an interfaith service celebration of the “Living the Legacy of Uncle Kathy” was held for Ahmed Kathrada, a South African politician, political prisoner and anti-apartheid activist. South Africa is currently facing a political governance crisis. Ahmed Kathrada known as “Uncle Kathy” was commemorated for his selfless sacrifice in the service of South African people for integral leadership and good governance. Approximately 200 people and religious leaders from various faith-based organizations in Pietermaritzburg gathered for the memorial service and were reminded of how the country should be governed.” [1]
Christopher Merrett, a South African historian writes: “It would be comforting and encouraging to think that Kathrada’s demise might have reminded enough ANC politicians with consciences that the Zuma government is turning South Africa into a mafia state. The values of the ANC’s stalwarts have everything to offer to what is now openly being called South Africa’s second liberation struggle.”
