Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa (GPFA) is a nongovernmental organization based in Monrovia, Liberia. Founded in 2012 by Nobel Peace Laureate Leymah Gbowee, GPFA seeks to promote holistic transformation and equal access to all in Africa, by providing education and leadership opportunities to women and youth, especially young girls.
The Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa Executive Director (ED) is the chief executive officer working in consultation with the Board of Directors to facilitate the operations of the Foundation in Africa. The Executive Director will supervise the staffing team (of 5-10 people, including full time staff, part time staff, and interns) and work with GPFA’s partner organizations to create and deliver high-impact, innovative projects to drive and support the mission and vision of the GPFA.
The Executive Director is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the organization’s short and long term strategy. The Executive Director provides strategic leadership, manages the operating structure of GFPA (including policies, budget and staffing), and is accountable for all day-to-day management decisions. The Executive Director will play a significant role in securing the financial resources required to sustain and grow GPFA initiatives and program portfolio. The Executive Director will build positive working relationships with external stakeholders, and work with the Board to leverage the GPFA global network strengths.

Lionel Cliffe Memorial Research Scholarship
The Review of African Political Economy (ROAPE) announces the second round of its small research grants competition in memory of Lionel Cliffe, the founder member who died in 2013. It is intended to promote research in the spirit of his work, and is restricted to African scholars and/or activists based in Africa. The competition is based on the premise that a shortage of funding for critical research is one of the problems faced by Africa-based scholars/activists wishing to carry forward a political economy agenda. In response to this, ROAPE will be offering up to four small research grants (value £3000).

Electoral Boundary Demarcation Expert, Malawi
Short-term Outcome: Malawi’s’ Constituency and boundary delimitation meets constitutional requirements in time for the 2019 General Elections.
This project will support the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), which is a constitutional body charged with supervising and directing the conduct of all elections in Malawi (i.e. Parliamentary, Presidential, Local Government, By-elections and Referenda). The function of MEC is guided by provision of both the Constitution and a range of supporting legislation.
The successful candidate should possess:
- Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience providing relevant electoral assistance.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in boundary and constituency delimitation and demarcation
- Demonstrated experience in developing/using GIS for the purpose of electoral mapping and boundary delimitation;
- Knowledge of democratic governance in Africa; experience working with Electoral Bodies in Africa is an advantage.
- Experience of producing high quality reports and analytical documents.
- Excellent training and communication skills as well as the ability to communicate fluently in English (spoken and written);
- Ability to engage with gender mainstreaming issues in the contact of national development planning.
- Advanced degree (Masters Degree or equivalent) in Geo-Spatial Analysis, Geography, Public Administration or a related field from a recognised and reputable institution.

UN Peace and Development Advisor, Chad
Given that Chad is approaching a period of elections, the country could witness a rise in political tensions. Therefore, it is critical that the UN Country Team be supported with the requisite capacities to analyze, understand, and adapt to a continuously and rapidly changing context. The deployment of a Senior Peace and Development Advisor (PDA) through the Joint UNDP/DPA Programme on Building National Capacities for Conflict Prevention offers an important contribution in this regard. Working under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Resident Coordinator, and in close collaboration with UN Headquarters, the Senior PDA will play an important role in ensuring the Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team are supported with the requisite analytical and strategic capacities needed in such a complex context and, importantly, build on such analysis to support the UN Country Team and national stakeholders develop effective responses that help to mediate, resolve, and transform ongoing conflicts and tensions at sub-national and national levels, including those with regional dimensions.

Call for Proposals – Anti-corruption and Criminal Justice Reform Fund in Nigeria 2016
The Anti-Corruption and Criminal Justice Reform Fund in Nigeria (the Fund) is a two-year, multi-donor initiative established by the Ford, Open Society and MacArthur Foundations (the Foundations) in order to support the current Nigerian administration in its resolve to fight corruption and its underlying factors as well as institute criminal justice reform. As fiscal manager, TrustAfrica oversees the management and administration of the Fund in close and robust liaison with the Foundations and the Nigerian Presidency. The Fund was established in mid-2015 to contribute towards the advancement of probity and accountability in public service in Nigeria and ensure that those who indulge in the abuse of public trust are predictably brought to justice.
Through proactive grant-making, research and the provision of technical assistance in areas such as convenings, program management and policy advocacy all within an anti-corruption and criminal justice reform framework, the Fund will undertake specific activities in furtherance of the following objectives:
- Increasing the cost of corruption to perpetrators by increasing the effectiveness of anti-corruption agencies and enhancing enforcement and sanctions regimes
- Improving the overall effectiveness of the Nigerian Criminal Justice System to foster rule of law
- Diminishing public and stakeholder apathy to the campaign against corruption by decreasing tolerance for corruption by citizens
Cognizant of these objectives, TrustAfrica is now seeking applications from eligible civil society organizations to undertake projects broadly focused on anti-corruption and criminal justice reforms. Preference will be given to organizations that are already working on similar themes in Nigeria.

East Africa Social Science Translation Visiting Fellowship and Research Grant
The EASST Visiting Fellowship seeks to equip East African social scientists with the skills needed to carry out rigorous evaluations of social or economic development projects in East Africa. During a four-month fellowship in the Fall (August-December 2016) or Spring (January-May 2017) semester, researchers will be based at the University of California, Berkeley. Selected fellows will be able to audit courses, present research, attend seminars, develop curricula and design collaborative research projects. Fellows will receive a living stipend, round-trip economy class air travel to Berkeley, CA, and the opportunity to receive seed funding promote impact evaluation at their home institution in East Africa. To be eligible, researchers must be residents of an East African country (Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, or Uganda) and hold a staff or student position at a research institution, university, or other organization headquartered in East Africa.

Each year, EASST invites pairs of researchers from the CEGA faculty network and East Africa to submit grant applications for the evaluation of innovative interventions in health, education, economic development, energy, and other sectors. Successful projects will achieve two primary goals: (i) creating new knowledge that will improve the design of development programs in East Africa, and; (ii) enhancing East African researchers’ skills and capacity to lead further evaluations. The East Africa Social Science Translation (EASST) Collaborative is pleased to announce its fourth annual Research Grant Competition. EASST invites pairs of researchers from the CEGA faculty network and from East Africa to submit grant applications for the evaluation of innovative interventions in health, education, economic development, energy, and other sectors. The ceiling for grant requests is USD $50,000 per project, and a total of $200,000 in research funding will be awarded across all projects.

Peace and Security Fellowship for African Women, African Leadership Centre
The African Leadership Centre (ALC) was established in Kenya in June 2010 as a joint initiative of King’s College London and the University of Nairobi. The ALC is pleased to announce a call for applications for the Peace and Security Fellowship for African Women for 2016/2017. This Fellowship is an intellectual and financial award to those who are able to portray convincing demonstrable or potential capacity to bring about intellectual, policy or other change in their field. The Fellowship is a postgraduate non-degree programme, and does not lead to an academic qualification.
The Fellowships bring together African women in the early stages of their careers to undertake a carefully designed training programme in conflict, security and development. This training is followed by an attachment to an African Regional Organisation or a Centre of Excellence to acquire practical experience in the field of peace and security. It is intended that this project will train African women to develop a better understanding of African peace and security issues, in order to increase their participation in conflict management processes and other areas of security concerns for Africans.

We invite abstracts of 300 to 400 words for interdisciplinary, critical, and rigorously challenging original research papers in the social sciences, humanities and social legal studies from scholars who have not yet published in international peer-reviewed academic journals. We look for participants who are interested in new ways of thinking about how to cultivate reading and writing cultures in southern communities that are also global, including papers that emphasize, for example, speaking across and within spaces of the south and/or articles that focus on the relationship between law, society, and critical development studies.
