Reminder about ASAA Conference in April!

The CIHA Blog would like to remind readers about the upcoming African Studies Association of Africa (ASAA) Conference, held on 11-16 April 2022 through a hybrid format. We are excited about the conference program and about participating in it. We hope to see many of you there as well!

Message from ASAA:

We look forward to continuing the work we have started in building our association and telling our stories. Despite the challenges of the past few years, including those we have had to deal with due to the global pandemic, because of the dedication of our members and affiliated organizations, we have grown from humble beginnings to a place where we are known and recognized within the African continent and beyond.

We also remind you of our upcoming conference at HUMA,UCT, (https://2022conference.as-aa.org) in April 2022, which promises to be very exciting. With its hybrid format, it will also be accessible to a wider audience. It also enables us to overcome the challenges of accessing visas, and raising funds for travel which bedevil mostly students and early career scholars from the continent. Information concerning registration and early bird payment which ends on 31st January, 2022 can be found in the following link: https://2022conference.as-aa.org/register/

The deadline for submission of abstracts for the ASAA2022 conference has also been extended to 31 January 2022, 23:59 PST (UTC−06:59 on Feb 1). The Conference Committee is responding to numerous requests from, particularly younger scholars to extend the deadline. We hope that this extension allows sufficient time for accepted panellists to submit their abstracts as well as for scholars and other people affected by COVID-19 to submit their abstracts. The call for abstracts is available in EnglishFrenchArabicPortuguese and Swahili. And we look forward to engaging with the authors on the next steps. Kindly also note that as a consequence, the date of the abstracts acceptance notification automatically moves to 7 February 2022.

As we prepare for our next conference, we would be pleased if members would consider making a gift towards membership of the association to a colleague, especially to young academics, artists and practitioners in your networks. This will both help grow the ASAA while also ensuring we sustain our “Pan-African DNA” and remain relevant into the future. For those who are not yet members, we hope you will consider signing up for membership of the ASAA. To those whose membership has expired, we look forward to you renewing your membership.

With a changing of the guard in terms of our leadership almost upon us this year, we also look forward to your immense participation in the upcoming elections (expect an announcement soon) and your support for the new executive board that will take office after our upcoming conference.

The executive board and secretariat staff of the African Studies Association of Africa offer our best wishes to you and your families as we look forward to a fruitful 2022 and to serving you throughout this year.

Sincerely,

Dr. Edwin Adjei

On behalf of ASAA Executive Board and Secretariat Staff
