UN Women has established a programme for South Sudan that targets 3 key Result Areas: (1) enhanced women Leadership and participation in gender responsive governance; (2) increased access to women’s empowerment and opportunities; (3) Improved protection and security for women and girls. Increased women’s access to education opportunities will be cross-cutting and supports all the three pillars. Capacity building is the overarching strategy with technical support to functional literacy as the basis for the social, economic and political empowerment of women.
Required Skills and Experience: Master’s Degree or equivalent in Political or Social Science, International or Gender Studies, Public Policy, or related field; at least 7 years of substantive experience at International senior programmatic position with recognized expertise and experience in gender; particularly mainstreaming and public policy analysis; experience with post conflict programming; strong analytical and writing skills; fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.

Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships Programme
Established in 2010, the Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships form a selective programme designed to identify and support future African leaders. The Ibrahim Leadership Fellows receive mentoring from the current leaders of key multilateral institutions. Fellowships are offered at the African Development Bank (Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire), International Trade Center (Geneva, Switzerland), and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia).
To apply for this fellowship you must be a national of an African country; have 7-10 years of relevant work experience; have a Master’s Degree; be under the age of 40, or 45 for women with children.

Regional Researcher, Amnesty International, Great Lakes Region
As a research-based campaigning organization, investigating and documenting human rights issues is fundamental to our advocacy and lobbying work. Our Great Lakes Researcher will take the lead in initiating human rights research and action from the East Africa regional office by providing regional and thematic expertise, excellent research skills and sound political judgement. A campaign oriented approach to your work is essential. You will be required to conduct and co-ordinate research activities, monitor, investigate and analyse political, legal and social developments and human rights conditions, give authoritative advice on these areas and prepare human rights action materials.
With experience of working on human rights issues, you must have first-hand in-depth knowledge and experience of Rwanda and Burundi and an understanding and awareness of the cultures of the Great Lakes Region. You’ll have a background in activism, academia, law or journalism with the ability to identify and thoroughly investigate those issues and ensure our voice has authority. With your extensive experience of working from the region you will have a strong network and rich experience of undertaking this kind of sensitive work in the field. A natural collaborator you will need proven research and influential communication skills, impartial political judgement, coupled with strong strategic thought. Fluency in English and French is essential, including excellent writing skills.

Civil Society Leadership Institute (CSLI) for West Africans
The challenge for civil society is to strengthen its influential role because technological change, demographic shifts, environmental pressures and economic uncertainty has made the sector an essential component for achieving development objectives. The importance of grooming new and emerging leaders within the sector to respond proficiently to these contemporary developments has become essential. Grooming and equipping that next generation of leaders is a priority goal of the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) in the next 5 years. The Institute seeks to empower middle-level practitioners within civil society in the region with competencies to occupy leadership positions within the sector. CSLI will be geared towards effecting transformational leadership through a three-pronged participatory approach that focuses on: Individual, Organisational, Societal.
Applicants must meet the following criteria: Be at the middle management (or a level lower than the executive director position); be nationals from and/or working in The Gambia, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Liberia; must have a minimum of two years of work experience in their current organisation; must have demonstrated leadership or critical problem-solving skills in their current or previous job; must be willing to return to their current organisations and stay for at least one year; must have an excellent understanding of the English language.

It’s a one-year gig, it’s paid, and it’s an opportunity unlike anything else, an opportunity to be at the heart of the next generation of storytellers. Throughout the year, you’ll work with and learn from our core AJ+ team. You’ll join us in our adventure as we introduce AJ+ to the world, and you’ll be a valuable part of making sure this introduction unfolds with fireworks.
You’ll spend 2-3 weeks with us in San Francisco, then head back home and work remotely from there. Projects include: Tracking trends online and on the ground across your region; Moderating digital discussions to keep things in line when opinions turn to shouts; Pitching fresh angles and stories from your region to our teams in SF; Encouraging folks in your region to engage with AJ+; Working and bonding with your five fellow Fellows to help us roll out AJ+ around the globe in style.

FRIDA, The Young Feminist Fund Grants for Activist Groups
The Young Feminist Fund is the only youth-led fund focused exclusively on supporting global young feminist activism to advance social justice movements and agendas. FRIDA was created to bring new resources and new opportunities to young women and trans* youth globally. We believe that supporting young feminists is key to the expansion, rejuvenation and sustainability of women’s movements and organizations, both now and in the future.
Who can apply? Groups founded or led by young women or trans* youth (under 30 years) that are committed to: Advancing and defending women’s rights from a feminist perspective; improving the lives of young women/transgender youth at local, national, regional or international levels; inclusive organizing, collective action and feminist movement building; groups, networks, or collectives based in the Global South; groups founded in the past 5 years (i.e. your group was formed between 2010 – 2014).
