Postdoctoral Fellowship in Urbanization and Development in Sub-Saharan Africa

The Africa Research Center (ARC) at GRI invites applications for a two year post-doctoral fellowship with the possibility of renewal beyond the second year if external funding is identified. The fellow will research the rapid urbanization of African countries and their ability to create stable and well-paid employment positions in the formal sector with an eye to the region’s peace, stability, and prosperity. The post-doctoral fellow should have advanced quantitative methods training, an ability to work with one or more of the following software programs (e.g., R, Stata, Python, GIS), and already be engaged in research on a related topic, preferably with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa. The deadline to apply is 2/10.

ASAA2022 IDRC Scholarship for Women

The African Studies Association of Africa is pleased to announce the “Call for Applications” for the ASAA2022 IDRC Scholarship for Women. Funding from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) has made available a limited pool of scholarship awards for African women delegates to attend the upcoming 4th Biennial African Studies Association Conference (ASAA2022), held in Cape Town, South Africa, 11–16 April 2022. Call for Papers: Special Issue on African Public Diplomacy

This CFPs invites contributions that address (single or comparative) case studies that may be country specific or thematic and provide insights into the following possible areas:

  • Decolonising and de-westernising public diplomacy in an African context
    · African agency: narratives, communication policies and practices
    · Single and comparative case-studies involving state and / or nonstate actors
    · Public Diplomacy instruments and strategies

From Archival Pasts Towards Archival Futures: Epistemologies, Decolonization and (Dis-)Placement: Call for Proposals

Interested members are invited to be participants at an interdisciplinary workshop — From Archival Pasts Towards Archival Futures: Epistemologies, Decolonization and (Dis-)Placement — to be held at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana, November 7-11, 2022. This workshop explores the entangled archival legacies of colonialism in Africa and Europe and studies the complex ways in which archives connect present-day societies to the past and the future. Please send a proposal of no more than 300 words and a short CV by March 5, 2022.

Colloque AUF/FME : La recherche sur les esclavages dans le monde : Un état des lieux

L’AUF et la Fondation pour la Mémoire de l’Esclavage (FME) organisent en novembre 2022 un colloque sur le thème ” La recherche sur les esclavages dans le monde : Un état des lieux”. L’objectif de cette rencontre est de répertorier et de rassembler tous les chercheurs travaillant dans la triple perspective de l’histoire, de la culture et de la citoyenneté relatives aux différents types d’esclavage en vue de créer un réseau qui pourrait être membre de l’AUF. Un appel à communications est ouvert jusqu’au 15 mars 2022.

Ibadan Journal of Humanistic Studies: Call for Papers

Ibadan Journal of Humanistic Studies (IJHS) is an annual publication which serves as an interdisciplinary forum for the presentation and discussion of issues of broad humanistic relevance. The IJHS hereby invites original papers for its Volume 31. Preference is given to articles related to the African experience and environment, but there is also room for issues that embrace the larger international order or human culture from which the African world may derive valuable comparative insights. Call deadline: March 18, 2022
