Postdoctoral Research Fellows (4 Posts) (1 year contract)
HUMA – Institute for Humanities in Africa at the University of Cape Town in South Africa in collaboration with LASPAD – Le Laboratoire d’analyse des sociétés et pouvoirs / Afrique-Diasporas at Gaston Berger University in St. Louis, Senegal invites applications for four one-year post-doctoral fellowships in African scholarly publishing and dissemination.
The four postdoctoral research fellows will work as part of a research team on the Open Society Foundation funded project entitled “Strengthening African Academic Publishing and Dissemination”. The objective of this continent wide study is to critically assess the state of scholarly publishing and dissemination in Africa, with a particular focus on identifying the kinds of interventions that need to be carried out to strengthen Africa’s scholarly publishing and knowledge dissemination infrastructure. Specifically, the project seeks to understand how the knowledge economy and industry is positioning itself with respect to AI and rapid global innovations and technological advances in scholarly publishing and dissemination such as digitization, open access, open science, research for development, PoD, Plan S, amongst others.

Assistant Professor- History of the Horn of Africa
The Department of History and the African Studies Program, New College, in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invite applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of the History of the Horn of Africa. This will be a joint appointment between the Department of History (51%) and New College (49%). The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1, 2021, or shortly thereafter.

Assistant Professor of Sociology or Anthropology – University of North Florida
The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work and the Africana Studies Program at the University of North Florida seek to hire a full-time, nine-month tenure-track faculty member in sociology or anthropology at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2021. Candidates should have expertise in the study of race and racism and in the geographic and cultural area(s) of Africa and/or the African diaspora.

Call for Papers – International Conference on “The Fishing Community of Guet Ndar in Saint Louis du Sénégal: Between Singularity and Universality”
The conference will be held under two formats: a series of papers presentations by speakers and a forum that will bring together the conference’s participants and the opinion leaders of the Guet Ndar neighborhood, in order to compare analyses and ideas formulated during the sessions, and to learn about the perspectives of the members of the Guet Ndar community. Recommendations will be made and addressed to municipal and national authorities.
