The Sixth J. A. Atanda Lectures and Conference, Yoruba Culture and Society, Babcock University, June 21 – 23, 2021 (Deadline for Abstract Submission: March 30, 2021)

The 2021 Atanda conference intends to address core questions of decolonizing society in the contemporary context. For instance, how can the African (Yoruba) culture grow its influence, transmit values, and play decisive roles within current realities? How has the language been used since the nineteenth century to define Yoruba culture, mediate colonial modernity and globalization, and develop post-colonial urban cultures? Contributors are invited to send a short abstract of no more than 250 words on any of the above subject areas as well as a short bio by email to: atandaconference2021@babcock.edu.ng

Global Scholars Academy (Deadline: April 2, 2021)

The Global Scholar Academy, led by The Graduate Institute of Geneva and Harvard Law School, is an intensive residential experience designed to enable junior faculty and post-doctoral scholars to engage in sustained, interdisciplinary, peer-to-peer collaboration. The Academy is open by application to advanced junior scholars working to understand and map the levers of political, economic, and legal authority in the world today. Applications from scholars from the Global South and those working on policy challenges of concern to communities in the Global South are particularly welcome. Applications and letters of recommendation are due April 2, 2021.

Call For Research/Postdoctoral Fellowships (Deadline: April 4, 2021)

The Ali Mazrui Centre for Higher Education Studies (AMCHES) invites qualified academic researchers to apply for a two-year research fellowship at the University of Johannesburg. The fellowships are aimed at enabling academic researchers to conduct research on the legacies of African scholars, intellectuals, leaders, and institutions. Successful candidates will be working with leading scholars in the field and utilise all available research facilities in South Africa and beyond.

Two-Year Postdoctoral Associate in Modern African History at Duke University (Deadline: April 11, 2021)

The Department of History at Duke University seeks to appoint a two-year Postdoctoral Associate with specialization in African history for 2021-23. Through research, teaching, and service, the Associate will contribute to the overall work of the History department. We seek candidates with broad knowledge of African history in its global context. We are open to candidates doing research on any aspect of African history and our expectation is that the Associate will be affiliated with one of the ongoing initiatives of the Department such as the History Methods Lab, Faculty-Student Task Force on the Study and Teaching of Race, or the Franklin Gallery@History.

Call for Participation: Is there an African University? (Deadline: April 15, 2021)

The workshop “Is there an African University?” takes place from 15 to 16 July 2021 in a hybrid format. Scholars are invited to submit a short abstract in English (max. 1 page) until 15 April 2021 to l.schubert@uni-bonn.de – Notification of Acceptance within three weeks.
