This week (February 19 – 23), the University of Ghana Institute of African Studies is hosting its 4th Annual Black History Month Film Festival featuring original documentaries from Zambia, Burkina Faso, Mali/Senegal, Ethiopia, Uganda, Canada and the United States, among others. Preeminent East African social research group, the Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR), seeks to create a market place of ideas and arena of debate through a wide range of activities and forums. MISR Post-Doctoral Fellow, Dr. Matteo Caravani, will be presenting on March 7th on “The Political Economy of Failing Aid in Karamoja” to understand why aid has failed in Karamoja, and the ways in which its failure has been reproduced over time. On March 7th, Stanford University’s Center for African Studies will be hosting Dr. Lilian Dube for their weekly “Africa Table” lunchtime lecture series. Dr. Dube is an Associate Professor in the Theology and Religious Studies Department at the University of San Francisco. In 1999, she made history as the first Black woman to earn a DTh from Stellenbosch University, founded in 1866. Dr. Dube will be speaking on the topic of “Exploring Ubuntu Through Global Service Learning in Zambia.” Learn more here.
