Talks at the Makerere Institute of Social Research (January 20th and 24th in Kampala, Uganda). The Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR) will be hosting Prof. Abdelwahab El-Affendi (Doha Institute for Graduate Studies) and Prof. Issa Shivji, (University of Dar-es-Salaam) on the topics of “The African Dimension of the Gulf Crisis” and “The colonial and post-colonial architecture of land tenure in Tanzania” respectively. University of Ghana Institute of African Studies Film Screening on Jazz Cosmopolitanism (January 23 in Legon, Ghana): The Institute of African Studies (IAS) at the University of Ghana will be screening “Jazz Cosmopolitanism in Accra, Vol 5.” In this film chronicling Ghana’s music since independence in 1957, C. Abbey, a Ghanaian puppeteer explores an exceptional 50-year career from Accra’s streets to villages to international TV. Learn more here.

3rd Annual Aid and Development Africa Summit (January 27 – 28 in Nairobi, Kenya): Gathering over 300 senior representatives and advisors from regional governments, UN agencies, international and regional NGOs, CBOs, investors and donors, research institutes and the private sector, Aid & Development Africa Summit looks at how technological innovations and best practice can improve aid delivery and development strategy in East Africa.
